Privacy Policy of Educated Friends
Educated Friends is providing the Schools Community Network service at http://educatedfriends.com/schools
This Privacy Policy is effective as of January 1st, 2009.
Website Visitors
Like most website operators, Educated Friends collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Educated Friends’ purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Educated Friends’ visitors use its websites. From time to time, Educated Friends may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its websites.
Educated Friends also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Educated Friends does not use such information to identify its visitors, and does not disclose such information other than under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.
Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information
Certain visitors to Educated Friends’ websites choose to interact with Educated Friends in ways that require Educated Friends to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Educated Friends gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who use our facilities to provide a username and email address. In each case, Educated Friends collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfil the purpose of the visitor's interaction with Educated Friends. Educated Friends does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. Visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website related activities.
Aggregated Statistics
Educated Friends may collect statistics about the behaviour of visitors to its websites. For instance, Educated Friends may reveal how many downloads a particular item got, or group member quantities, or other statistics about most popular facilities at websites. However, Educated Friends does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.
Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information
Educated Friends discloses potentially personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on Educated Friends’ behalf or to provide services available at Educated Friends’ websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using Educated Friends’ websites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. Educated Friends will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying information to anyone, unless it is part of a business transfer, as described below.
Other than to its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above Educated Friends discloses potentially personally-identifying information only when required to do so by law, or when Educated Friends believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Educated Friends, third parties, or the public at large.
If you are a registered user of an Educated Friends website and have supplied your email address, Educated Friends may occasionally send you an email to tell you about the facility and changes or new features added to it, or to solicit your feedback about the facility, or just keep you up to date with major developments at Educated Friends. We primarily use our blogs or onsite notices to communicate this type of information, so it is unlikely that you will receive this type of email communication, unless you subscribed to a specific service with an option to unsubscribe whenever you wish to do so.
If you send us a request (for example via a support facility or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it without your contact details in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users.
Educated Friends takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction of potentially personally-identifying information.
Business Transfers
Educated Friends may sell, transfer or otherwise share some or all of its assets, including the Schools Community Network facility with all its data in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy. However such transactions will be announced publically at least 30 days in advance and the details will be published prominently on the affected facility.
Cookies
A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor's computer, and that the visitor's browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Educated Friends uses harmless cookies to help identify visitors and their usage of facilities and access preferences. Visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before browsing the Internet, with the drawback that certain features of websites may not function properly without it. All login and online purchase facilities require cookies or else it will not be possible to use that facility.
Our Policy Towards Children
Our websites are not directed to persons under 13 and persons under the age of 18 must obtain the permission of a parent or guardian before accessing any of our websites. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with personally identifiable information without their consent, he or she should contact us. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal identifiable Information, we will delete such information from our records.
Privacy Policy Changes
Although most changes are likely to be minor, Educated Friends may change its Privacy Policy from time to time in our sole discretion. Educated Friends encourages visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to this Privacy Policy, using the effective date as an indication of the most recent changes. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
The Bottom Line in Layman’s Terms
We care and value your privacy and will protect it as if it is our own privacy that is at stake. It is likely that you will provide us with personally identifiable information, without which you cannot expect to build a trust relationship amongst a circle of friends. We want to serve you to the best of our ability, which we cannot do if we don’t know anything about you or if we cannot communicate with you. We therefore require some information about you and also need general statistical information so that we can cater for your existing and future needs - that about covers the extent of our interest in your information. We don’t have any need to spy on you or spam you with junk, as that is about the dumbest thing any person or organization can do. However we cannot tolerate unethical elements to harass or bother our valued members, and will therefore use whatever information we have to rid our facilities of them. We are committed to serve you and protect your interests, and will not sell you out or harass you if you if you are honourable.
